• Sydney VES Chapter Established
  The Visual Effects Society has just established a chapter in Sydney. This is a pretty good indication of the number of VFX professionals in the city (London has only recently established its VES chapter). This bodes pretty well for there being some good screenings and events happening for me when I arrive back in a couple of months. VFX World article here

• Variety Articles on VFX
  There are a couple of interesting articles at Variety at the moment. One is on the expanding influence of VFX Supervisors in film production, and another on the increasing crunch felt by VFX houses, due to rapidly rising demands and shrinking timeframes. Great to see such spot on coverage of VFX issues in a general film/entertainment magazine.

• FrameFixer v1.0.1 Released
  I was getting pretty frustrated with bad frames in long renders, so I've written an app where you can load in a sequence, tag the bad frames, and it fixes them for you (simple as that!). It uses optical flow to do the interpolation, and most of the time gives really good results, sometimes indistinguishable from the other 'real' frames. Lots more info, including a demo video of it in action at www.framefixer.com. Available now for Linux and Windows, soon for OSX.

• New Tutorial: Using Maya's 'Pick Walk'
  Just a short article about how using the arrow key shortcuts in Maya can save you a lot of time in navigating the node hierarchy.
